Step by step guide to create a gangsheet on canva

How to Create a 58cm x 100cm Gang Sheet in Canva (PNG Only)

1) Create the Canva file at the correct size

  1. Open Canva and click Create a design.
  2. Click Custom size.
  3. Change units to cm.
  4. Enter:
    • Width: 58
    • Height: 100
  5. Click Create new design.

Result: You now have a canvas that matches the gang sheet size.

2) Turn on rulers, guides, and margins (so it prints right)

  1. Top menu: File → View settings.
  2. Turn on:
    • Rulers
    • Guides
    • Margins

Add a safe margin manually (recommended)

  • Keep all artwork at least 1cm inside each edge.
  • If you want a visual frame:
    • Go to Elements → Lines & Shapes → Square.
    • Stretch it to the edges.
    • Set it to outline only.
    • Lock it so it doesn’t move.

3) Make sure your artwork is print-ready before you upload

  • Artwork must be PNG with a transparent background.
  • Use high-resolution artwork (ideally 300 DPI at final size).
  • Avoid screenshots or low-resolution images.
  • If white outlines are needed, add them before uploading (Canva outlines can be inconsistent).

4) Upload your designs

  1. Left panel: Uploads.
  2. Click Upload files.
  3. Select all transparent PNG files.

5) Place designs onto the gang sheet

  1. Drag one design onto the canvas.
  2. Resize using corner handles.
  3. Duplicate designs using Ctrl + D or Alt + drag.
  4. Arrange designs to fill the sheet efficiently.

Layout tips

  • Use Position tools to align and space evenly.
  • Keep rows straight using rulers.
  • Leave 5–10mm gaps between designs for cutting.

6) Check scale (important)

Canva does not always clearly show object sizes in cm. Use a measuring block.

Common DTF size guide

  • Left chest: 8–10cm wide
  • A4 size: 20–21cm wide
  • A3 size: 28–30cm wide
  • Back print: 30–33cm wide

Measuring method

  1. Add a square from Elements → Shapes.
  2. Resize it using rulers to match the target size.
  3. Use it as a size reference for your artwork.
  4. Delete the square when finished.

7) Do NOT add a background

  • Leave the canvas blank behind the artwork.
  • Do not add coloured or white backgrounds.
  • Transparency must be preserved.

8) Export the gang sheet (TRANSPARENT PNG ONLY)

  1. Click Share → Download.
  2. File type: PNG.
  3. Ensure Transparent background is ticked (Canva Pro required).
  4. Do NOT download as PDF or JPG.
  5. Click Download.

9) Final checklist before uploading

  • Canvas size is 58cm × 100cm.
  • All artwork is inside the 1cm safe margin.
  • Artwork files are high-resolution transparent PNGs.
  • There are 5–10mm gaps between designs.
  • File is saved as a transparent PNG only.
